Ohio Horseman’s Council Inc.

Miami County Chapter

Minutes

March 11, 2017

A regular monthly meeting of the Miami County OHC was called to order at Aunt Faye’s Training Center in West Milton, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. by interim President and Vice-president Susan Cavedo with 13 members present.

Susan Cavedo reported that Mick Retman was improving and back at Brookhaven.

Due to the length of February’s minutes, the minutes were approved as submitted first by Susan Bayse and second by Sue Ladd.

Shirley reported that the Tack Sale fundraiser was a success with a total of $###.  The club would like to send out a big thank you to Kim Wall and Trinette Kelley, a.m. shift helpers; and Sue Ladd and Susan Cavedo, p.m. shift helpers.  Also thank you to our members who donated sale items:  Kate Carpenter, Jane Lavy, Sue Ladd, Kim Wall, Trinette Kelley, Susan Cavedo, Shirley DeWinter, and Jeanette Dehus.

Jeff Furlong gave the Treasurer’s report of a balance of $### with 2 outstanding checks.

Shirley explained the Reward Points agreement with Valley Vet.  For every $5,000 of merchandize sold to our members on the Reward Points list, Valley Vet will give Miami County OHC $50 in merchandize or a $50 gift card to use as a prize or raffle.  The member list will be submitted at the end of this week.  If you want to be on this list, please call or email Shirley DeWinter, 937-266-8461 or jdewinter@woh.rr.com

KmK Promote is hosting the web site https://miamiohc.itemorder.com/sale for our T-shirt sale.  However, there was a mix up in communications when our account was transferred to another employee.  Shirley is asking you to hold off on placing your order until the long-sleeve T-shirt and the sweatshirt are also posted on this site.  Shirley is also requesting that the end date also be changed to April 23.

Jeff Furlong has agreed to be our club liaison to the Miami County Fair. Two years ago, Miami County OHC sponsored the Trail Class purchasing two belt buckles for over $100 each.  We did not participate last year because our Fair contact person retired.  Shirley DeWinter made a motion that Miami County OHC sponsor the Trail Class again this year.  Merle Moore discussed the possibility that this class may already be sponsored and that we need more information.  The motion was tabled until our next meeting.  Merle Moore volunteered to acquire the information that we need from the Miami County Fair Board and Miami County 4-H Advisor.

Susan Bayse and Sue Ladd gave the Activities Committee report.  A new Facebook page called, “OHC Connection” is up and running.  The page is to post trail riding dates, times, and location as well as OHC organized events.  For example, if you are riding this Sunday at Carriage Hill, and you would like others to join you, you would post this information on “OHC Connections.”  The administrator, Susan Bayse, is screening all requests for membership to this site to insure our members’ safety.  Do not post “For Sale” items on this site.  Please bring your questions or concerns to our next meeting.

The Activities Committee is also looking into a club trip to the Ohio Renaissance Festival.

Susan Cavedo brought up for discussion a new Trail Boss to replace Mick for this year.  Charlene Hardin suggested that we alternate the Trail Boss each month and that we also alternate the day of the week.  For example, one month we ride on a Saturday and the next month we ride on a Sunday. No decision was made at this time.

Susan Cavedo attended the March 4 OHC President’s Meeting and invited the State OHC Vice President, Eric Estilll, to our May meeting.  She also passed out pictures and information about the Asian Longhorm Beetle that is now in Clermont County.  This beetle destroys all trees.  Please find more information on the State OHC web site,

https://ohconline.com/

Susan also announced the May 7-10 International Trail Symposium at the Dayton Convention Center.  This international event will sponsor lectures, demos, and vendors for all trail venues—Horse, Hiking, and Biking. The American Trails Organization is looking for volunteers to work all shifts.  The free benefits are numerous.  Please check out www.americantrails.org  and then click on symposium.

The OHC state rides are now posted on the web site, a special mention to the Greene County Caesar Creek State Park Ride on June 9.  Karla Evan has made reservations for our Miami County Mohican State Park Campout on August 18-20. Please contact Karla if you wish to arrive a day early or stay a day later.

Next meeting will be Thursday, May 11, at Kyle Park trailhead in Tipp City at 6:30 p.m. Please note the change in day and time.  The trailhead for the horse trails is behind the baseball diamonds and next to the dog park. Please bring a snack or appetizer to share.  If raining, we will move the meeting to the shelter.  Call or contact an officer for detailed directions.

Meeting was motioned to adjourn at 8:25 pm by Shirley DeWinter and seconded by Carla Brogden.  Carla, a certified reflexologist, then gave a lecture and samples on “Young Living” essential oils.
